Who doesn’t love some good bird names for boys? (Honestly, some of these could be great enby names, too.) Here are some that I found while researching the shifter book series. If you have any other bird name suggestions, let me know in the comments!
Corvid Names (Ravens, Crows, Etc.)
Bertram: Old German for “bright raven”, from the elements beraht “bright” and hram “raven”.
Bran: Irish origin, meaning “raven”
Corbin: From the Old French corbeau (“raven”), from the Latin corvus (“crow”, “raven”). Eagle-eyed book readers (no pun intended) will know that Grandpa Bert’s full name is Bertram Corbin, a doubly crow-like name.
Bird of Prey Names
Arnold: From the Germanic arn (“eagle”) and wald (“power, brightness”)
Aquila: Latin origin, meaning “eagle”
Falcon: Latin origin, meaning “falcon”. Going back even further, it’s probably from the Latin word falx, meaning “curved blade, pruning hook, sickle, war-scythe”, just like the shape of the bird’s talons, beak, or even the shape of the bird itself in the sky. Heck, YES. That is metal af.
Gavin: a variant of the name Gawain, an Arthurian knight. From Celtic elements meaning “white hawk”
Hawk: English name for the bird of prey. The word itself goes back all the way to the Proto-Indo-European root *kap-, meaning “to grasp”. Cool!
Talon: I’m putting this Bird Name for Boys ™ under “birds of prey”, since they’re the ones with the sharp grabby bits 😊I guess beaks are grabby bits, too, but I think Talon makes a better name than Beak. Beaker? Beakman? Hmm…this needs more research.
Bird Names for Boys: Other Birds
Callum: Scottish name meaning “dove”. The Irish name “Colm” has similar roots, leading back to a Gaelic variation on columba, the Latin word for “dove”.
Jay: English, jay bird.
Merle: French, blackbird.
Robin: English, robin.
Finch: English: finch. This bird name might actually come from the sound that finches make. Cute!
