One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most this year has been discovering book lovers on Instagram. In fact, there was a WHOLE COMMUNITY of readers under the hashtag #bookstagram. I had no idea!! Now it’s a regular part of my daily routine to check out the latest book hashtags and the sumptuously styled photographs that go with them.
Whether you’re new to Instagram, or you just want to find more friends who love to read, here are some book hashtags that I used to find awesome book accounts this year:
Book hashtags to find your delightfully nerdy book tribe:
There are so many people all over the world who are posting about their current reads, old favorites, and new releases they are looking forward to. I’ve met people from Italy, Turkey, Poland, England, Australia, and India, just to name a few places! Here are some of the general tags I’ve used to find new people:
#bookish, #bookstagram, #bookstagrammer, #bookblog, #bookblogger, #booknerd, #bookaddict, #bookishpeepsies, #booknerdigans, #bookaddict, #bookaholic, #bookdragon
And if you’re a writer, you can use book hashtags to find your fellow authors, too. Don’t forget the famous quote from Stephen King — ‘If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.’ So don’t forget that writers are readers, too! You can use Instagram to find people who love reading books in your genre. (Or people who can commiserate with you when NaNoWriMo is sucking the life force from your brain.)
#authorsofinstagram, #writersofinstagram, #author, #authorlife, #currentlywriting, #nanowrimo
Book hashtags for reading in general
#currentlyreading, #amreading, #readrecommendations, #igreads, #ilovereading, #readersofig, #readersofinstagram
Book hashtags for pretty book photos
Some of the IG accounts out there are jaw-droppingly good. Like, these people could be professional prop stylists, no lie! Here are some of the tags I’ve followed just to see more of the gorgeous goodies:
#booksbooksbooks, #fortheoveofbooks, #bookphotography, #booksandflowers, #bookspines, #coverlove, #bookporn, #shelfie, #bookmerch
Book hashtags for different days of the week
Some users post themed photos for different days of the week. For example, Map Mondays are for photo of world maps sometimes found on the inside covers of books. (Think maps of Middle Earth in Lord of the Rings, or a map of Faerie in The Cruel Prince.) Or maybe you have a giant book haul that’s taking over your desk, in which case you could post your book tower under Stack Saturday. Even a new pair of cozy socks can make the cut–you read in cozy socks, right? (Thanks, Sock Sunday!)
Don’t feel pressured to do a weekday-themed photo every day of the week. (I personally do the occasional #mapmonday and #stacksaturday, but not every single week.) But any time you DO want to be part of the any of these, just add these book hashtags to your themed photo and join in!
#mapmonday, #socksunday, #shelfiesunday, #stacksaturday
Book hashtags for YA books (Young Adult books)
You can obviously search for tags for any book genre, like #cozymysteries or #scifibooks, but since I write YA paranormal romance books, these are some of the book hashtags I like to hit up on the regular:
#yalit, #yafiction, #ireadya, #yalove, #yaseries, #yafantasy, #yabooks
Bonus tip: you can also use book hashtags to find people posting about your favorite YA authors, like #maggiestiefvater or #lainitaylor
Book hashtags to add a little magic to your library
#bookswithmagic, #supernatural, #paranormal, #paranormalromance, #pnr, #fantasybooks, #fantasyfiction, #urbanfantasy, #muggle
Conclusion
There are tons of book hashtags out there, and new hashtags are being created all the time. So don’t be afraid to go out there and tag it up! (And if you’re a book lover who wants to be IG buddies, you can find me at @emily.israd.books 🙂 )
